Let’s give this thing a try.
Okay so: why? Well, nobody reads blog posts anymore (unless they’re on Medium? Substack looks a lot like Medium, now that I think about it) and even if you already follow me on Twitter and are subjected to the fire hose of my shitposts, sometimes algorithms get in the way and made you miss out on that really funny tweet and totally not a bait tweet for thirsty lesbians. Also, I’m selfish and I want people to not miss out on updates re: my writing. Sometimes I post free short stories! It remains to be seen whether I’ll just put them straight on Substack (probably, for maximum convenience) or put a link to them here.
I also feel Substack is a better format than, say, Patreon—partly because I can just make all of this free, partly because I feel Patreon’s feed is… not optimal. It seems like people just subscribe to people’s Patreons mostly to support them, which is fine, but from my experience as a user viewing the feed of content isn’t very intuitive and the format just rubs me wrong. It’s a GUI thing. I don’t like it.
So, the way Substack works is that it functions as a newsletter. You subscribe with your email address (no need to register an account) and when I post something new, it goes to your inbox. I don’t intend to post very often; I’m estimating once a month or even less. The content will be mostly about my fiction but maybe I’ll also post reviews of games, anime, and books? Who knows. We’ll see!
